Europe in Summer

Sure beats Europe in winter, which was last time I was here. Sorry I'm just getting going with the journal, but I've been traveling ya know and getting to a computer hasn't been the easiest task. So, let me catch you up...

The first show we played was in Portugal, a festival show no less. I didn't really know what to expect from the Portuguese crowd, but I was pleasantly surprised as they danced and sang along during the set, apparently we have fans here. I stuck around after and watched the Kooks perform some songs, cool guys, I like them.

So then we had a travel day and headed to Amsterdam to pick up the tour bus. Amsterdam is a good time, but luckily we weren't there long enough to get into any real trouble. We climbed aboard the bus and headed to Haldern, Germany, just in time to get to the festival and see the closing set by Mogwai. That band are great, possibly one of the loudest bands I have ever heard. It had been raining earlier so the festival site looked a bit like vintage images of Woodstock, mud, hippies, etc.

Waking up the next day I caught a bunch of acts including the Wrens, the Kooks (again), and some others that were new to me. The day seemed to drag on forever though, seeing as we didn't go onstage till after Midnight and I'd been up since Noon. However, when we hit the stage it was fucking fun as hell. About 5000 people started moshing and dancing and we had a great time. Afterwards we went and caught Jeff's friend Ed Harcourt at his show.

Then it was onto Hamburg for our first club show. We pulled out some new stuff at that show, and we'll be adding more as the tour progresses. The Knust club was really hot and the sweat started pouring off us by the end of I'm Ready and didn't stop. Afterwards a few of us got to sit and talk with the fans for a while, attempting to speak German and failing miserably. All in all, a good night.

So now we are in Copenhagen at Vega. Jeff, Mark and I are sitting backstage getting ready to soundcheck. The people here are so fucking tall it's unreal, I feel like a hobbit. Anyway, tonight promises to be fun, I'll fill you all in on it later. Tomorrow we head to Sweden and have a day off; I'll do my best to get to a computer. Promise.

Cheers,

Scott
