Has anyone else here read Nick Cave's most recent novel? If so, what did you think of it?

I read it soon after it was released and was blown away. It was unsettling, bizarre, and hilarious in turn--classic Cave--but also surprisingly emotionally profound. It moved me in a way I can't describe and still can't quite put into words. Perhaps, I could say, it was a reminder of how we can be so blind as to what's really important in life.

The bits of the audio book I've listened to are great as well, I like hearing the book read in Cave's voice, and the music and orchestration from Cave and Ellis is a nice touch.

It was fucking BRILLIANT.

Not as charged as "And The Ass Saw The Angel" but an absolute standout of post-everything emotional ruin and damnation.

Have it on my nightstand, Stephanie - it's next on my list.

Sounds like it's going to be good.

I for one, simply loved it. purchased it as an Audiobook for Iphone, narrated by Mr. Cave himself. It's a different experience alltogether. beautiful!

I finished it a few days ago.

It was a good read - quite a character. The book had a nice flow to it, and Cave can definitely tell a story.

An interesting study on how we become who we are, for better or worse. This guy isn't all that bright, but can eke out some sort of existence using his one skill.

As I was reading it, I was thinking about how it could easily be perceived as misogynistic, but that's not the intent. The writer is judging him throughout the novel and sets up his demise.

There's a new collection of TC Boyle short stories that just came out. Next on my list. Anyone read it yet?
